Services

Trust chains & ecosystem of issuers

Establish an ecosystem of trusted credentials issuers.

Establish accreditation relationships, manage issuing permissions and make authorisations independently verifiable
Versioned dataset record: EU Stats Employment Dataset Q1 2025, version 2 over version 1

Built for organisations

Accrediting organisations

For ministries, regulators, professional chambers and other organisations responsible for accreditation.

Credential solution providers

For organisations developing credential issuing, wallet and verification services.

A shared trust registry

Make accreditation verifiable.

Grant accreditations

Authorise organisations to issue specific credentials.

Define the scope of issuing authority within your accreditation framework.

Delegate authority

Establish accreditation responsibilities across organisations.

Authorise accrediting bodies to accredit issuers within their permitted scope.

Manage accreditation status

Keep issuer authorisations verifiable as they change.

Record revocations so relying parties can check whether an accreditation remains valid.

CAPABILITIES

Two components for a verifiable credential ecosystem

EBSI provides registries for recording issuer accreditations and defining the credential structures used within an ecosystem.

Issuer accreditation and revocation

Define who is authorised to issue which credentials.
‍
Register accreditation relationships, delegate issuing permissions and record revocations within a trust chain.

‍Example: An education authority authorises universities to issue diplomas and can revoke that authorisation.

Credential schemas

Define the structure of credentials within your ecosystem.
‍
Register agreed credential schemas so relying parties can check that credentials follow the expected format and structure.

Example: Universities use a common schema to issue verifiable diplomas.

How it works

From accreditation to verification

ROOT AUTHORITY

Establish your framework

A root authority defines the accreditation structure, identifies participating organisations and sets the scope of issuing permissions.
ACCREDITING BODIES

Accredit or revoke participating organisations

Authorised accrediting bodies grant permissions to credential issuers. Accreditations, revocation and their status are registered on EBSI.
RELYING PARTIES

Verify the chain of trust

When a credential is presented, relying parties can check the issuer's accreditation, its status and the chain leading to a root authority they accept.

A root authority defines the accreditation structure, identifies participating organisations and sets the scope of issuing permissions.

FAQ

Yes. Integration is through APIs, alongside the systems you already operate. Publishing your accreditations as a trust chain on EBSI makes them checkable outside your own network.

The root authority at the top of each chain decides who joins it and what they may issue. EBSI makes those decisions verifiable. Each relying party chooses which root authorities it accepts.

Onboarding is on request through our team. Organisations receive a registered identifier and authorisation to use the APIs.
