The operator behind EBSI
Europeum-EDIC (European Digital Infrastructure Consortium) is an international public agency as a legal entity established under EU law by its founding Member States. Created by European Commission decision in May 2024, it took over the governance and maintenance of EBSI from the European Blockchain Partnership.
As the sole operator of EBSI, Europeum-EDIC is accountable to its members and operates independently of the European Commission. The purpose and direction of the EBSI infrastructure is directed by the Assembly of Member States members, as representatives of European citizens’ interests.

Responsibilities
Managing the onboarding of node operators, trusted issuers, application services providers and new members.
Ensuring compliance with eIDAS 2.0 and open standards.
Leading the Business Launch and future phases of EBSI’s development.

Member States
Europeum-EDIC is governed by its founding Member States. Each member contributes to the governance structure and has a say about EBSI’s direction.

Under Europeum Statutes, EU Member states and EEA countries, third countries if associated with a directly managed European Union programme, other public entities established in participating Member States and international organisations of European interest are eligible to join at any time as a member or an observer.
